Where The Rogue AntiSpyware Application 'ThinkPoint' Comes From and How to Remove It

in Security

ThinkPoint is a legitimate looking anti-spyware application created by bad intentioned individuals. It is designed to simulate fake system scanners and display bogus security alerts or pop-ups that will scare victims into believing that their computers are infested with dangerous computer threats.

Where does ThinkPoint come from?

This application can be intentionally downloaded from malicious websites by unsuspecting users. It can also be secretly installed onto users' computers by stealthy Trojans that don't need permission to enter or run on a system. The Hotfix.exe file is part of the ThinkPoint application and may be difficult to manually delete. Although you may be successful at ending the hotfix.exe process, it will re-load at startup of Windows.

Should I purchase ThinkPoint?

Despite the recommendations and prompts to do so, purchasing ThinkPoint is a big mistake! Users should be aware that all the viruses, Trojans etc., detected by this rogue's scanners or alerts, are fabricated. Even if the malware detections were real, this rogue security application is not able to remove any type of computer malware from any computer system.

Besides flooding a PC with fake alerts, this malicious application will block access to Task Manager or Registry editor and slow down the operation of an infected system. It may also modify the browser settings and redirect a victim to malicious websites that also promote rogueware.

Should you encounter ThinkPoint pop-ups or scanners on your PC, do not hesitate to have the rogue removed immediately.

If you have a good knowledge of removing computer threats, then you can attempt to remove ThinkPoint manually. If you not much of a computer whiz, don't be discouraged because you can always use a recognized and reliable anti-virus to remove ThinkPoint and all other malware from your PC.
